The Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Sabah Zita Okaikoi has called on investors to take advantage of the general incentives available when they decide to invest in the tourism sector.

According to the Minister the government recognizing the capability of the tourism sector to transform the economy and also create employment for the citizenry has put in place attractive packages that would make it possible for investors to inject their capital into the sector.

Some of these incentives include concessionary rates of 10% duty and 12.5% VAT on imports other than food , beverages , building materials and vehicles required for projects in all segments of the tourism industry, and also a further tax allowances ranging from 25% to 50% depending on the location where the investor wishes to locate his/her business etc.

Mrs. Okaikoi made this known when Mr. Stuart Chase and Clovis Nader, General Manager and Project Manager respectively of the upcoming Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra paid a courtesy call on her at the Ministry.

The Minister commended the Managers for their effort and urged them to consider putting up other branches in the other regions in the country.

‘We have a lot of attractive tourist sites in the other region but due to lack of accommodation many visitors find it difficult visiting these sites,’ she added.

The Minister further called on them to endeavor to help bring other smaller hotels on board so that the Tourism sector can move forward.

Mrs. Okaikoi was happy that the hotel would be completed on schedule and would help create jobs for many Ghanaians.

The General Manager, Mr. Stuart Chase in his remarks thanked the Ministry of Tourism for supporting them since they started the project and indicated that the project would be completed on schedule.

He indicated that the completion of the hotel would create about three hundred jobs and pledged that the company as a policy would ensure that most of the jobs are offered to Ghanaians.

Present at the meeting was the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kwabena Acheampong and the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Diana Hammond.
